Capt. Phil Vogelgesang

Capt. Phillip C. Vogelgesang Jr is the current Commander of Glenn L Martin Composite Squadron. In this role, Vogelgesang ensures the squadron acts as an extension of wing, develops senior staff to support unit goals, encourages cadets and seniors to participate in activates, such as orientation power & glider flights, encampment and search and rescue training exercises and real world missions. Additionally, he ensures the squadron is financially responsible, fund raisers for needed supplies, maintains efficient ratings in the Wing SUI and engages in monthly aerospace education. Since joining Civil Air Patrol in May 2016, Vogelgesang has held several positions within the squadron, such as the Transportation Officer, Safety Officer, Communications Officer and the Emergency Services Officer. Additionally, he works with the Wing IG staff conducting squadron SUIs. He has served as a TAC officer at 2 encampments as well as at RCLS. Finally, Vogelgesang served as an instructor at SLS and TLC Basic classes and several Emergency Services courses. Capt Lt Vogelgesang has a passion for Emergency Services; he is involved in most operations from ground team and urban direction finder team to air crew, as an Airborne Photographer, Mission Scanner and Observer. He is also member of the new Maryland Wing sUAS Red Cell team. 2018, he earned a Find Ribbon on an ELT/lost aircraft mission as the Mission Radio Operator and Mission Staff Assistant. As well as earning his Disaster Relief Ribbon for his effort during the Hurricane Florence as a POD member, distributing supplies to local residents in North Carolina. In 2020, he earned his second “Find” as aircrew. Professionally, Capt Vogelgesang works at the United States Coast Guard Surface Forces Logistics Center Technical Information Branch in Curtis Bay as an Engineer Technician. He also serves as part of the USCG Auxiliary, as a member of the aircrew who augments the United States Coast Guard Atlantic City Air Station.
